Job Description Job Summary and Responsibilities As a Surgical
First Assistant, you will provide critical patient care by directly
assisting the surgeon during operative procedures, working under
their immediate direction. You will instrumental in ensuring a safe
surgical experience through technical support for exposure,
hemostasis, and wound closure. Every day you will collaborate
closely with the surgical team, performing duties under the
guidance of the operating surgeon, circulating nurse, and reporting
to your designated Team Leader. This involves a range of assigned
tasks to support the surgical process effectively. To be
successful, you will demonstrate exceptional technical proficiency
in assisting the surgeon, maintaining acute awareness of the
surgical field and patient safety. - Assesses the patient for
unique surgical needs during a procedure. Proactively assesses the
need for specialty equipment, instrumentation, and assisting
functions that will provide optimal assistance to the operating
surgeon. - Analyzes assessment data in determining patient care
needs and in determining how to safely support the surgical team
during the intraoperative phase. - Identifies expected outcomes
individualized to the patient and surgical procedure. Adapts to
changes during the case to achieve desired outcomes. - Develops a
plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected
outcomes. Assisting techniques are reviewed/studied prior to
assisting with unfamiliar cases. - Implements the interventions
identified in the plan of care. Reviews charts, interview patients,
assists with positioning, prepping, draping patients, providing
hemostasis through clamping, ligation, use of electrosurgical units
or hemostatic agents. - Provides surgical wound exposure via
retraction, suctioning, irrigation, suturing, and sponging
techniques. Handles tissue, organs, vessels, nerves, and bone with
appropriate instrumentation. Sutures fascia, subcutaneous and skin
layers, places drains and secures, and applies dressings. Job
Requirements Required - Associate Of Nursing - Graduate of an
accredited Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) program -
Registered Nurse: AZ (RN:AZ) - Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR) -
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Certified Nurse Operating
Room (CNOR) Preferred - Bachelors Of Nursing - Electronic Medical
Record EMR experience and Cerner - Certified Registered Nurse First
